A Pop of Color

You may recognize this end table from a DIY I did before here and though I loved it then, Mr. Hughton and I decided it was time for a change. He had never painted anything before so we went down to Home Depot and bought these two beautiful colors They accent each other so well and its now become one of my favorite spots in the whole apartment. Don't you love when your little projects turn out better than you planned?

Puppy Parade

Outfit Details:
Cardigan-H&M
Nautical tank and Tweed shorts-Forever 21
Tights and Flats-Target
Bow belt-thrifted

We took our little man to the dog park the other day. We're starting to make this a regular thing. He needs more interaction with other pups for I fear he's getting too used to the idea that he's actually a human being. Although we love to make him a part of our family, definitely guilty of treating him like my unborn child, every now and then he deserves a taste of reality. We didn't hesitate to take a little photo shoot, however, before we entered the gated world. I really think he's starting to make friends. It's like taking your child to school for the first time... at first its hard to let go, hard to watch them meet new kids and begin to play on their own, but once you see how happy it makes them, you want them to keep coming back and never lose that glow. Yep, I'm that crazy animal lady who treats her animals like children and proud of it!

Couldn't leave the house without a quick shot with my lovely little girl, either.

Funny Face

Today is a tribute to one of my all-time favorite Audrey movies, Funny Face. If you haven't seen it, you are very much missing out. Is it any wonder that the combination of Fred Astaire, Audrey Hepburn, the Gershwins, and Paris achieved success? Between the ravishing dance numbers and high fashion photo shoots who couldn't fall in love with this balmy romance. It shows Audrey's true beauty in the most natural form as Fred Astaire takes her from an owly libranian to a luxurious model. Yet you can't take the brain out of the girl. Like I said, a must see!

Style:Valentines Edition

Outfit Details:
Pins and Needles Shirt-gift from my lovely cousin, Bri
Bandeau and Polka Dot Hi-Lo skirt-Forever 21
Belt-H&M
Shoes-Lauren Conrad from Kohls!

I absolutely love these pieces. I wear the red top and these new periwinkle shoes practically every other day it seems. I'm obsessed. And I figured the red and polka dot combo was very Valentines. And the pink tulips courtesy of my wonderful man make a lovely addition to these photographs he took that I'm so proud of! He thinks he's horrible at photography but I think he's got some untapped creativity in there, don't you?

Pre-Vday Celebration

Family Staring Contest?

For our Pre-Valentines day Celebration, Mr. Hughton and I made some Heart-Shaped Onion Burgers. YUM! And super easy recipe. Just add one packet of Liptons Onion Mix to 2lbs choice of Ground meat. My father is a big hunter so we chose to make Elk burgers! They were amazing. Add your choice of toppings and buns and presto! :) Once midnight came along, we decided a stroll in the rain to Walgreen for some cardmaking utensils and some Arizona Ice Teas was a wonderful idea. We wanted to take Wolfie but he seemed a little too inconspicuous in Kyle's jacket. After this rendezvous , we stayed up all hours of the night making each other homemade Valentines. We feel they're much more meaningful this way.

I love this boy.

Saturdate afternoon

On Saturday, the manfriend and I had a wonderful Date Day with our little furry man, Wolfie. We spent the day watching my bestfriend, Holly play softball for her college team, UC Merced v. UCLA and might I say, my girl kicked some serious booty. I'm so proud of her! And I've missed her so. Her living in Merced and me here in San Diego makes for a very complicated friendship but we do what we can to make time to see each other. The day was beautiful. Lightly sprinkling one minute, bright and sunny the next. The variety is, to me, perfect weather.

Outfit Details
Vintage lace dress-thrifted
Cardigan-gift, can be bought at H&M
Tights-Walmart
T.U.K. shoes-bought years ago from Hottopic, believe it or not.

D.I.Y. Banner

Okay, ladies and gentlemen, as promised here is the handmade banner I made for Shoie

Tools you'll need:
Scissors
Ball of soft yarn
A book the length that you want your tassels
Your choice of cord to hang the banner on (I chose a gold braided rope from Walmart)
Wire to attach your letters with (I upcycled some twist ties by peeling the paper off!)
And some form of letters-I made mine from scratch out of panel letters and glitter because wooden letters were out of stock which turned out to be much more difficult than anticipated so I don't suggest going that route unless you are very patient and have a very good tool to cut them out with.

To make your tassels the same length I learned this delightful little trick where you wrap the yarn around a book or hard piece of cardboard that's roughly half the size you want them to be. Then, you cut them at the top and repeat until you have the amount you want. Easy as pie!
Next, fasten each strand of yarn to the cord. Decorate your letters. Attach. And your done!
Voila!

Birthday wishes

I am so excited to share a project I just finished for my friend, and future sister-in-law's 21st birthday! But, since her birthday isn't until this Saturday and I'm not giving her the gift until tonight I can't share pictures! But if you could, send some amazing birthday wishes her way on her blog Jane Says. Her name is Shoie. Viva Las Vegas, girl! Wish I could be there.

Keep a lookout for the project after the weekend.

Thrifty threads

Ah, reunited and it feels so.. good... I'm finally back with something wonderful to post. The manfriend and I went thrifting yesterday after a brilliant recommendation from Miss Siovaun <3 Be sure to stop by her blog for a good, everyday read! So here's our fabulous finds! Drum roll please...
This lovely vintage lace dress for $9 was my first find and by the look in my precious Leila's eyes, she approves. Then we found Mr. Hughton these dashing brown leather oxfards for a steal of $7. And with all this photography going on Leila couldn't help but hog the camera.

Oo-de-laly, I love thrifting.

Be sure to tune in next time.

my first two projects will be this adorable  side table made from a vintage suitcase and this beautiful wall art from ReclyArt made from paper rolls.

All I need is the materials and I will be on my way with step by step instructions so you, too, can share the beauty in your home.

My next two projects will have to wait until we move and will be displayed beautifully on our new patio!

Fresh New Outlook

Its about time for me to reenter the work force. I'm heading out on my formerly avoided job search and finally getting back on my feet. First things first, find the perfect outfit. Now, a major issue I've been facing is that a lot has happened in the past 2 years. Two big moves: first, to the big, bad city of Los Angeles from my hoboke little hometown and second, to beautiful San Diego to live with the love of my life but without knowing a single person here. And with these two big changes one thing remains the same, my wardrobe. Not by choice, of course, but a busy, expensive school schedule and no job didn't exactly allow me to revamp my outdated closet. So with a little help from this wonderful idea by Kendi Everyday, I am taking the 30 for 30 Remixes Challenge. Although I may or may not have 30 items in my closet, I am fully prepared to make this challenge work. For me its the perfect way to get the feeling of a fresh start when all I need is a fresh new outlook. Here's to a  new beginning and hopefully many more posts to come.
Thanks for tuning in and don't change that dial.

D.I.Y. Who needs creamer? Have a Candle in your Coffee

So, before I actually sit down and get into the deep stuff the New Year makes me ponder about, I just wanted to post a little D.I.Y. I thought of a while ago. So exciting... my first D.I.Y. Okay, here it goes.

Here's the premise: have you ever had so much coffee left after the expiration date you don't know what to do with it? Or just got sick of the coffee you bought and still LOVE the smell? Here's a fun, super inexpensive way to use that coffee and make your house or apartment smell amazing.

So, my numbers are missing and I couldn't find a good collage editing system to use that I could completely customize placement and everything so if any of you professional bloggers have any advice on collages, let me pick your brain, please!

  1. First, find your favorite sent of coffee in either ground or whole bean-I feel ground works a bit better. Then you'll need a clear bowl to place them in. You can find this cute fishbowlesque one at your local dollar store.
  2. Scoop the desired amount of coffee into your bowl.
  3. Usually best to fill it about half way so it will completely cover the candle you put in it.
  4. Pick your favorite candle scent. I suggest using a candle already in a glass container as opposed to tea lights or just the candle itself. You don't want the candle melting into your coffee. Although it smells twice as amazing, it doesn't last long. Before you know it the coffee has completely buried your candle and has hardened over it.
  5. Next, arrange the coffee using a knife or spoon so it sits nicely around the bowl and your candle.
  6. Display it in your favorite place of the house.
  7. Light.
  8. And enjoy!

Thanks for reading and I hope this works as well for you as it has for us.
